My, oh my, it has been quite a while since my last post, and time has been a-flyin’!

Time flies when you’re having fun…right? Uh, yeah~.

To tell you the truth, I was getting tired of sitting around waiting for things to come through, and dealing with some of the big disappointments that ensued. My poor boyfriend (mostly) had to bear the brunt of my uncharacteristic moodiness and moments when I’d take my frustration out on him (albeit to a mild degree). So, at the end of last month, an opportunity presented itself, and I decided to take a leap of faith and embark on a completely new journey. I haven’t had a chance to breathe since.

Hence, me going M.I.A. the last 3 weeks or so. Sorry. I love you, but it’s not personal — so seriously please don’t take it as such.

I’ve been here the whole time, trying to lay low and *quite frankly* not spend any money. Let’s face it. We’re in a seriously sh*tty recession, deep in doo-doo, and it doesn’t look like we’re going to be coming up for air anytime soon. I am not gonna lie. It’s going to be hell for the next year, two years, and possibly even three years or longer. Who knows? This started in 2008…it’s already mid-2010. Jobs are being added in CA, but most are not in the private sector. All we can do is hunker down and hold onto every bit of our loose change as best we can.

So, in all honesty, if something costs money, I really have had to think twice. Seriously. And it wasn’t this way just a few years ago.

Thankfully, I have a steady paycheck now (no thanks to the lazya$$ State of California >:-( On a side note, I’d like to opt OUT of supporting EDD from this point forward if I may, thankyouverymuch). But I’m making even less than what I was paid at my last job (which was peanuts-by-the-hour and monthly birthday cake, anyway — not that what I was doing was all that anyway), and about half as much as I was at the job prior to that (my dream job — sigh — except for the fact that I was located 3,000 miles away from my family and the Southern California sunshine).

HOWEVER, where I have managed to land — although not glamourous and in fact (let’s face it) despised by many — there are great career opportunities with long-term stability and potential for true growth unlike most jobs nowadays. Plus, my brother and his fiance, AND another one of my extended family members works for this “company” so I’m comforted that I have built-in mentors. It’s neat to hear frequently, “Hey, are you Jamien’s sister?” Why, yes, yes I am, thankyouverymuch. He’s my younger brother, in fact, and I respect him greatly. He makes me and my entire family proud…and now it’s up to me to not tarnish his name and strong reputation that he’s built up over the last 8 years. (Eek!)

By the way, if you’d like to keep tabs, I have had more employers since graduating college than he will likely have throughout the course of his entire working career if he sticks with our current employer — even without holding a Bachelors degree. Just a lil’ sum-sum to chew on. (Although let me say…I’m not bitter or regretful of any of those jobs/experiences/years. I learned a whoooooooole lot in the years since leaving for Berkeley and life abroad, and I wouldn’t change any of it. I certainly wouldn’t be the same person as I am now if I hadn’t done any of it. Now, it’s just time to shift focus a bit, settle in and “grow up”, so to speak….)

So, again, here I go! What is it exactly that I’m doing now, you ask? Well…I could tell you…but then I’d have to kill you…. 😉 Besides, you might see me one of these days anyway, so just keep your eyes peeled. I’ll (likely) be the (only??) one with the warm smile and sparkle in her eye. 🙂 Just don’t forget to smile back. I’m sure I’ll need it by then!
